StarCrossed: The Last Full Moon Bullied Me and It's Coming Back for Seconds
I have a sinking feeling that I didn’t mention something important in the last StarCrossed post.
StarCrossed follows a hobby that keeps my passion for reading and research alive—astrology and astronomy. My love for the Universe goes beyond the spiritual and includes the scientific wonders of space.
You may have read my guide to Cancer season and have benefited from my advice. If so, I commend you for focusing on self-love and self-care. I’m writing this on June 21—yes, I write many posts in advance—and I have a sinking feeling that I didn’t mention something important in the last StarCrossed post.
This full moon in Capricorn that’s getting me to feel all my feels right now is coming back on July 21 as a supermoon—and two consecutive full moons in the same sign are very rare and worth working with in terms of understanding yourself and your emotions.
How Often Do Two Consecutive Full Moons Fall Under the Same Sign?
I don’t know. But the last one I remember before this period was in 2019—the first full moon in Libra occurred during the spring equinox or Ostara on March 20, when the Sun entered Aries. The second one happened on the last day of the Aries season in 2019, April 19. Since that was about five years ago, I can confidently say this is rarer than a blue moon—which is also happening soon.
Why is the period between two consecutive full moons in the same sign critical? The moon rules what makes you who you are—your history, familial roots, emotional development, and social background. The moon dictates the specificities of getting in touch with your inner child and your shadow. The moon can also rule your overall health if you’re a woman. As someone with the Sun and moon in Cancer and a Cancer stellium, anything to do with the moon affects me deeply. You may feel the same if Cancer is prominent in your birth chart.
Right now, hours before the first full moon in Capricorn, I’m feeling bullied, and I don’t like it. I woke up this morning in a cold sweat with tears. Capricorn bullied me into facing my worst fears about myself, and I couldn’t stop it. Writing this post was my last hope to revert to calmness.
How Do You Navigate the Path Between the Two Full Moons in Capricorn?
A roadmap wouldn’t do you any good now because the period between these full moons is almost over. But I remember remarking that the first full moon in Capricorn may be an excellent time for a work-related gratitude or cleansing ritual. This is, of course, because Capricorn is associated with Saturn. Saturn rules authority, rules, responsibilities, and structure.
My initial mistake was to put all the focus on work when Capricorn is not all about work—just like Cancer is not all about family. There is a tendency to think in shorthand regarding what zodiac signs are associated with, and I need to work on that bias. Instead, I should have realized that go-getter Capricorn will encourage everyone—particularly those with Cancer, Capricorn, and maybe other cardinal signs like Libra and Aries in their birth charts—to reevaluate the structure of their lives: what works, what doesn’t, what needs to be revitalized, what needs to be dropped, and what needs boundaries. Maybe Pisces will feel all of this at a greater level than most, too, as Saturn retrograded in Pisces last June 29.
I think Capricorn will have you assessing your life in a very businesslike way—you may feel the need to highlight the pros and cons of different areas and relationships in your life, qualify current benchmarks and set different ones if needed, and even pivot your attention to more “profitable” markets. What does this look like? If my reaction to the first full moon in Capricorn is any indication, it may look like a depressive episode. When assessing your life, you’ll encounter things you don’t like and likely think, “Why is this part of me when I don’t like it?” And then, you’ll need to digest the answer to that question. That can release a flood of sadness and regret.
But hopefully, you’ll use that sadness and regret to fuel your desire to change for the better. When the second full moon in Capricorn arrives on July 21, you could be ready to unveil a new “strategy” for your new and improved life. If you’re interested in moon rituals, this supermoon would be a great time to do one involving your new plan for yourself—maybe make a vision board or write down some affirmations or manifestations.
What Are Supermoons and Blue Moons—Are They Rare?
Supermoons occur when a full moon’s orbit is closest to the Earth. This happens because the moon orbits in an ellipse, so as it travels, it can move closer or farther from the Earth. Supermoons may appear brighter and more prominent than a regular full moon, and astronomers call them perigean full moons. While it’s not rare to have more than one supermoon in a year, in 2024, four supermoons will occur consecutively—and that’s rare.
Blue moons have two definitions. The first one is traditional but not the reason for the “once in a blue moon” phrase—some people say the blue moon is the third full moon in a season with four full moons. The second one is generally known as the definition: the second full moon within a single calendar month. The next one of these is happening at the end of August. Blue moons take place every two and a half years—the last one was in 2021, also in August.
How Do You Harness the Power of the Moon in Capricorn?
You know me—my magic is all about coincidences and rarities, so when they pop up, I recognize them, realize their beauty and power, and make them part of my rituals. Or, I just meditate and listen—to myself, and to the Great Unknowable.
You may or may not do the same. Again, how you interpret astrology and navigate your magic practice is up to you—if you follow someone else’s way of doing things, it may not resonate. Talk again soon!
