StarCrossed: What to Expect from the Back-to-Back Eclipse Season
This eclipse sandwich period would be a good time to start new habits you want to keep and let go of whatever’s no longer serving you.
StarCrossed follows a hobby that keeps my passion for reading and research alive—astrology and astronomy. My love for the Universe goes beyond the spiritual and includes the scientific wonders of space.
Like me, I assume anyone reading my letters isn’t too excited about Easter Sunday—but if you are, Happy Easter! I don’t pretend not to notice that eggs and bunnies have nothing to do with Jesus and everything to do with celebrating fertility and spring, but that’s just colonization and erasure for you.
Suppose you’re into astronomy and astrology like I am. In that case, you already know we’re between two eclipses: the penumbral lunar eclipse last March 25 and the upcoming total solar eclipse on April 8. You probably are also still reeling from the big asteroid passing close to Earth last March 15—but that’s a topic for another time.
This happens while Saturn continues its transit through Aquarius in 2024 before retrograding late in June. Saturn corresponds with structure and commitment. As I always mention, this planet is a taskmaster and a teacher enforcing discipline. This eclipse sandwich period would be an excellent time to start new habits you want to keep and let go of whatever’s no longer serving you.
When a Cazimi Is Truly Special
Remember cazimis? I didn’t write about it then, but there was a special one earlier this year—Pluto conjuncted the Sun in Aquarius last January 20. This combination won’t occur again for more than 200 years, and it signaled the end of a 15-year karmic cycle. If you’re a cardinal sign—Cancer, Aries, Libra, or Capricorn—you may see more apparent changes in your life than others due to this end.
Because Pluto is, like Saturn, also transiting, it’s worth looking into its correspondences. Pluto destroys whatever’s on its path, forcing you to rise from the ashes. This is in line with the last new moon, signifying the end of the world or the start of the new one.
When a Nakshatra Is Worth Learning More About
Saturn also shifts into Pūrva Bhādrapadā on April 6, right before the solar eclipse. (I confess that I’m just starting to read up and research Nakshatra, which are lunar houses in Hindu astrology.) Pūrva Bhādrapadā—the highly intuitive or early blessed one—is the 25th of the 27 Nakshatra and falls under Bṛhaspati, the deity corresponding to Jupiter.
While the beginning of this phase corresponds to the Aquarius season, its end does correspond with Pisces. While the latter season ends on March 19, I believe Pūrva Bhādrapadā will extend the dreamy, intuitive energy we’ve all been feeling until way after the solar eclipse. However, this Nakshatra is also known for craftiness, deception, secretiveness, and even wickedness—probably because it’s a constellation representing a twin, the other being Uttara Bhādrapadā. Both constellations are often represented with dual faces or heads.
Don’t fall too deep into escapism and lose sight of your inner voice. When your intuition starts getting loud, your body and mind will often rebel. You may self-soothe to cope with feelings you don’t want to feel—don’t do this. Listen to yourself and give yourself some grace. Allow yourself to feel bad for once so you clear out all those skeletons from your mind palace’s closet.
When Mercury Retrograde Rears Its Head Again
Mercury also goes retrograde on April 2 and transits back to Pisces just after the solar eclipse on April 9, entering cazimi a few days after on April 11. Don’t worry, non-woo-woo aficionados. Magnolia Gatorade isn’t as bad as it seems.
People often hear about this period as a perennial version of the Y2K craze—electronics going haywire and all that. Still, it really is about Mercury’s connection to communication of all kinds. It’s not just about emails not sending or fax machines not turning on. It’s also about not remembering names during face-to-face conversations or impulsively making decisions because you don’t think things through.
Combined with the end of Pisces season and this eclipse sandwich period, this retrograde asks you to slow down and listen to yourself. How do you communicate with your shadow and your inner child?
When You Take Advantage of the Stars
Collectively, we’re looking at explosive endings and promising beginnings. What should be uncovered will be uncovered, boundaries that should be enforced will be enforced, and there will be hope for everyone to feel a little bit more freedom from the perceived order of the universe.
I hope I’ve given you some comfort and food for thought this eclipse sandwich season! Talk again soon.
