StarCrossed: About Pluto's Age of Aquarius
The Age of Aquarius as it relates to Pluto may also be known as the Pluto return, which occurs every 248 years. Pluto was last in this position in 1776.
StarCrossed follows a hobby that keeps my passion for reading and research alive—astrology and astronomy. My love for the Universe goes beyond the spiritual and includes the scientific wonders of space.
While talking to one of my close friends a few nights ago, I realized I never discussed the Age of Aquarius on #StarCrossed. Let's remedy that situation right now—Pluto's Age of Aquarius has significantly affected my life in 2024, and I'm sure it's been impacting yours, too.
What Is the Age of Aquarius?
The Age of Aquarius is not just a song from the popular musical "Hair" but also a concept studied and debated by astrologers for centuries. As an astrology enthusiast, I think of Pluto's Age of Aquarius as, bar none, the Age of Aquarius. However, most astrology experts will disagree and refer to the astrological concept based on the idea that the Earth's rotation around its axis causes gradual shifts in the position of constellations, known as precession. This movement is said to impact human consciousness and societal trends significantly.
For experts, the Age of Aquarius refers explicitly to the time when Aquarius aligns with our planet's vernal equinox. This alignment occurs approximately every 2,150 years, meaning each age spans over two millennia. These experts mostly believe that the actual Age of Aquarius will bring about significant changes in humanity and the world. It is often associated with notions of peace, community, brotherhood, and spiritual enlightenment—and is said to occur anytime between 2062 and 2080.
But in 2024, the Sun is located in the Pisces constellation on the border of Aquarius. This indicates that Earth is gradually transitioning from Pisces to Aquarius into a new astrological age—an inspired coincidence, as Pluto is also moving from Capricorn to Aquarius this year.
What Is the Pluto Return?
The Age of Aquarius as it relates to Pluto may also be known as the Pluto return, which occurs every 248 years. Pluto was last in this position in 1776.
Pluto is often referred to as the planet of transformation and rebirth. It represents the depths of our subconscious and brings about profound transformational energy. Its slow orbit has a powerful influence on humanity's collective consciousness, influencing societal shifts and changes. When Pluto aligns with Earth during its Age of Aquarius, it is believed to amplify this transformative energy even more. This alignment can bring about significant societal changes, such as revolutions, advancements in technology and science, and a shift toward individualism and authenticity. During the last Pluto return in 1776, the American Revolution sparked significant changes and set the foundation for a new nation.
Some astrologers believe this current Pluto return will mark a significant turning point for humanity's evolution towards greater unity and connection. As we move further into Pluto’s Age of Aquarius, we may see increased global awareness and activism and a shift towards more progressive and humanitarian values.
In addition to impacting the collective, Pluto's Age of Aquarius can also profoundly affect individuals. It brings a profound inner transformation and encourages us to confront our shadows and subconscious patterns. This can lead to personal growth and self-discovery, allowing us to tap into our true potential and purpose. In my personal life, the Pluto return has brought about issues from my past that I thought were long buried. It has forced me to confront and heal these wounds, ultimately leading to a deeper understanding of myself and my journey.
Why Are Cardinal Signs Most Affected by Pluto's Age of Aquarius?
I believe that as a Cancerian, I'm more significantly affected by the Pluto return—because Cancer is not only a cardinal sign but also a water sign.
Cardinal signs represent the beginning of a season and are characterized by qualities of initiation and leadership. The cardinal signs include Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn. Each of these signs is associated with a particular season:
Aries marks the start of spring
Cancer heralds summer
Libra ushers in autumn
Capricorn signals the onset of winter
Individuals born under cardinal signs are often viewed as proactive, ambitious, and capable of pioneering ideas or projects. They possess a natural drive to take charge and can influence trends and lead others forward.
The amplified influence of Pluto's Age of Aquarius on cardinal signs arises from their innate leadership qualities. As natural catalysts for change, these signs are predisposed to take charge during transformative times. The themes of innovation and progress, central to Pluto's Age of Aquarius, resonate deeply with their drive to push boundaries and launch new initiatives. As individual and collective consciousness evolves, those with prominent cardinal placements may often find themselves leading movements that advocate for social justice, environmental stewardship, and holistic well-being. Moreover, Pluto's Age of Aquarius encourages collaboration, enabling individuals with cardinal traits to leverage their talents to inspire and unite others around a shared vision.
How Does Mars Moving Through Cancer Affect Pluto's Age of Aquarius?
Mars is the planet of action, energy, and passion, typically spending around six weeks in each sign. When it moves through different zodiac signs, it can influence our actions and motivations in various ways. From early September to early November, Mars moves through Cancer, one of the cardinal signs. When Mars moves through Cancer, it profoundly impacts me—mainly because Mars is in Cancer on my natal chart. With many of my natal placements involving water signs, emotions and intuition play crucial roles in my life.
Mars moving through Cancer can intensify our emotions and heighten our sensitivity. It may also amplify any underlying tensions or subconscious patterns we have avoided addressing. This can be challenging but also presents an opportunity to confront and transform these aspects of ourselves. In the context of Pluto's Age of Aquarius, Mars' movement through Cancer can significantly impact collective consciousness. It may inspire people to take action to create a more compassionate and inclusive society, especially in the areas of social justice and environmental protection.
Mars' movement through Cancer can also affect how we approach personal transformation during the actual Age of Aquarius. During this new astrological age, we are called to confront and transform our inner selves, just as Mars' energy encourages us to take action and make necessary changes. This alignment can provide a powerful opportunity for personal growth and evolution on both individual and collective levels. This time could be favorable for introspection, inner work, and delving deep into our subconscious to release old patterns that no longer serve us—which has been the bulk of what I’ve been working on during daily meditation this 2024.
How Should You Navigate the Start of Pluto's Age of Aquarius this September?
As we enter Pluto’s Age of Aquarius, it is essential to approach this time with an open mind and willingness to adapt. The start of Pluto’s Age of Aquarius is an exciting time full of potential for personal and societal growth.
However, if you have a lot of cardinal and water sign placements in your natal chart, consider taking extra care of yourself during this time. The increased emotional intensity and transformative energy may be overwhelming, so it's crucial to prioritize self-care and seek support if needed. You may find that you're more quick to respond emotionally, and your feelings may be explosive to the point you may not entirely understand why. It's essential to be mindful of your reactions and communicate openly and honestly with others during this time. It's also an excellent opportunity to engage in inner work, identify unresolved issues, and seek ways to heal and transform them.
Pluto's Age of Aquarius invites us to embrace our unique selves, connect with our inner truth, and create a better world for all. Let us embark on this new journey together as we enter Pluto's Age of Aquarius and continue to wait for the actual astrological age to begin.
